Research and PhD Student positions open in the scope of the H2020 ELASTIC Project

Two research and PhD student positions are open in the scope of the ELASTIC project ( at the School of Engineering of the Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP,, Portugal.

ELASTIC will develop a software architecture incorporating an innovative elasticity concept, in which computation is dynamically distributed across the compute continuum whilst fulfilling real-time, energy, communication and secure properties.

The project is led by BSC, the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, and it brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of stakeholders from smart mobility and research domain sectors: BSC (Spain), Ikerlan (Spain), ISEP (Portugal), ICE (UK), SixSq (CH), Thales RT (FR), Thales Italia (IT), GEST (Italy) and the City of Florence (IT).

About the Positions

The research positions are open in two of the project lines of research:
=> Dynamic management of timing requirements across the edge-cloud continuum
=> Parallel execution in real-time runtimes

Successful candidates will be included in the ISEP team working in ELASTIC, and are expected to work towards a PhD degree at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (, in close collaboration with the ELASTIC team at BSC ( Periods of work in Barcelona (~6 months) are also possible.

Research grants will be provided for up to four years, with a salary ranging from 13.000 to 15.000 (after taxes and including social security) per year.

About Porto

Porto ( is a dynamic city that is becoming one of the best destinations in Europe. The city is also a centre of educational and research excellence, being relatively inexpensive for European standards (see The School of Engineering is located in Porto Innovation District, one of the largest density of research and innovation in Europe, with around 14 thousand people working in science, technology and health in a little more than a square kilometer.
